Operating within a multi-disciplinary team, the Mental Health Clinician will consult with clinicians, psychiatrists, and community service providers to build and promote a coordinated service of care with a multi-dimensional mental health focus in the community of Didsbury. There is a significant educational and mentoring component to this position, and knowledge of mental health assessment, pharmacology and intervention skills will be necessary to support this work.
40% This position provides clinical consultation to clinicians who provide direct service delivery to elderly individuals and their families/caregivers in their own community. At appropriate times, this position will be responsible for the comprehensive assessment and treatment of seniors with complex mental health disorders, taking into account the dynamics of the aging process with a goal to maintain individuals in their current environments.
20% This position will be responsible for the development of workshops aimed at transferring knowledge and skill related to assessment and treatment of individuals with mild-moderate mental health presentations with a goal to build capacity among service providers and maintain individuals in their current environments within the municipalities of Mountainview and Rockyview.
Using both inter-agency and individual consultative modalities, the Psychiatric Nurse liaises with local physicians, hospitals, public health nurses, F.C.S.S., schools, clergy, A.F.S.S., R.C.M.P., Native organizations and communities, and other community resources. Workshops and public education presentations are designed to complement the clinical program.
Master's level preparation in Social Work or Psychology; RPN designation with significant experience also considered. Required minimum 5 years experience with demonstrated strong skills in community based addiction and mental health with generalist focus. Knowledge of substance abuse issues and impact on senior populations is an asset, or efficacy and side effects. Experience developing and facilitating learning opportunities for care providers to expand their knowledge and skills related to addiction and mental health. Coaching and teaching experience, understanding of adult learning principles must be demonstrated. Excellent analytical and decision-making skills are essential. Basic computer skills required for correspondence. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary rural team setting. High level of communication skills. Valid driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle as travel is required. Registration with professional college and BCLS-HCP required.
