The Emergency Communication Officer - Inter-Facility Transport (IFT) is a key role in Dispatch Services and reports directly to the Manager of Dispatch Services. This position is responsible and accountable for providing safe and effective emergency medical call taking and assisting IFT Dispatch services. This includes support of the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services.

These activities will also include the integration of various resources to carry out these activities. The position is responsible and accountable for making key decisions and contributing to the achievement of the goals of the IFT dispatch process. The Emergency Communications Officer, Inter-Facility transport, will develop and maintain IFT dispatch skills in order to provide dispatch services for Alberta Health Services. Those applicants with current NAEMD certification will be an asset.

Key Job Responsibilities Include:
  • Provide call taking services to internal customers within a changing service area in a fast paced environment
  • Monitor call status and take "ownership" of call resolution
  • Provide call follow up and status updates to customers
  • Provide resource coordination for patient transports
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with all customers, co-workers, and contracted dispatch providers within a changing service area
  • The Emergency Communication Officer, IFT dispatch will develop and maintain dispatch skills in order to provide dispatch services for AHS
  • Monitor EMS resources and assist with recording of EMS resource activities using CAD
  • Provide input and assistance toward the safe and effective function and strategic direction of EMS
  • Liaise with health and government agencies primarily at a local level

  • Selected applicants will be invited for further communication, job-fit and typing testing
  • 7.75 to 12 hours each per shift cycle, (D,E,N,W) Current rotation provided for information only
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to multi-task
  • National Association of Emergency Medical Dispatch (NAEMD) will be considered and asset, for those that do not have this qualification, training will be provided
  • Typing minimum of 40 wpm

    Successful Candidates Must provide a Security Clearance and Vulnerable Sector Search (This must be supplied prior to first day of hire. This security clearance must not be older than 90 days from Date of Hire) from a law enforcement agency from your community of residence.
