As part of a multidisciplinary school based mental health team, this is an advanced level position that will be responsible for providing individual and group therapy to children in the Calgary Board of Education. The incumbent will be responsible for working closely with community professionals, school personnel, behavior support workers and family liaison workers to collaborate and coordinate care, provide leadership, increase capacity in teachers and other professionals around mental health issues and to act as a spokesperson and advocate for the children involved in this school setting. This position works to help enhance the provision of integrated health and related support services to children with the special health needs registered in this specialized school program and help ensure that these children are able to participate fully in educational programs to attain their potential and be successful in learning. Patient levels and workloads are reduced over the summer months and during holiday periods at which time the incumbent offers support to mental health facilities within Alberta Health Services and crisis support.
Master's degree in psychology, social work or related field of study. Three years of direct clinical experience in a children's mental health program. Current registration with a government accredited professional association is required. (ie. Alberta College of Social Workers, Alberta College of Psychologists). Experience working with school system professionals and an understanding of Alberta Learning's requirements for student education and familiarity with the learning system. Proven record as a Clinical Therapist. Knowledge of the inter-relationship between school milieus and community. Strong communication skills and the ability to work with community and educational partners in a consistent, collaborative care approach. Be able to work independently, and have a strong adherence to a professional code of practice. Ability to deliver services in a flexible working arrangement with school personnel. Demonstrated organizational and time management skills required. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills required. Proficient with Windows, Netscape, e-mail, Microsoft office and typing. Flexibility, Initiative, Reliability required. Access to a vehicle and travel within the health region required.
