Minimum: 34.72 per hour Maximum: 46.21 per hour
Under general supervision from the Care Manager, the Kinesiologist performs professional duties relating to exercise and healthy lifestyle assessments, exercise programming, and education for adults with one or more chronic condition within the Living Well with a Chronic Condition Program. The Kinesiologist ensures his/her practice is evidence-based and client-centred. This position functions as a member of a multidisciplinary team in the community and is responsible for developing evidence-based practice particularly in the area of physical activity, exercise and healthy lifestyle promotion.
Formal Education: Bachelor degree in Kinesiology (or equivalent exercise science degree) required. Master level education preferred. Attained the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology’s Certified Exercise Physiologist designation, or the American College of Sports Medicine’s Certified Clinical Exercise Specialist or Register Clinical Exercise Physiologist designation. Current BCLS-HCP Level C certification.
Experience: Physical activity/exercise and lifestyle education, testing, instruction, and programming. Advanced knowledge, skills and proficiency in the areas of exercise physiology and aging. Minimum 2 years experience working with adults that have chronic conditions in an exercise program or setting. Strong knowledge of exercise testing protocols in all areas of exercise physiology including anthropometry, strength, flexibility, aerobic capacity. Experience working effectively in a collaborative, consultative manner as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Demonstrated clinical expertise and competence. Experience in working in community and clinical settings. Experience with adult education and group facilitation preferred. Experience working with culturally diverse and vulnerable populations preferred. Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to plan, implement and evaluate program changes and promote and facilitate the change process with groups. Preparation and experience in teaching/learning theory is essential with knowledge of education approaches that enhance patient care, health promotion and self-management.
Other: Strong knowledge of exercise testing protocols in all areas of exercise physiology, including anthropometry, strength, flexibility, aerobic capacity. Must be able to use considerable independent judgement and initiative to decide whether treatment requested is suitable for the condition and if contraindications exist or seek guidance from a regulated health professional if the clinical question falls out of the scope of the kinesiologist’s training. Must be able to translate research and evidence into clinical practice. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of information systems, databases and computers an asset. Ability to establish and maintain effective and respectful working relationships with a wide variety of clients, other care providers, and team members required. Ability to work independently in a rapidly changing work environment required. Displays initiative and sound judgment. Self-directed and flexible. Travel is required. A car and valid Driver's License is required.
