An exciting opportunity exists in AHS, Calgary Zone. The South Health Campus (SHC) is expected to open in Summer 2012 with new areas continuing to open until late 2013. The SHC will be a full service hospital that will provide new service to Calgary in high need areas including Women's Health, NICU, Emergency, Surgery and Mental Health.
The SHC is more than just a "hospital". It is a campus environment and will include inpatient, outpatient, and wellness services, as well as prevention and public health learning opportunities for the community. The campus will also include a YMCA and retail services.
The SHC has four key pillars of service: Collaborative Practice, Wellness, Patient and Family Centered Care, and Innovation. These pillars are guiding the development delivery of service to all patients and families at SHC.
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides leadership and coordination in the daily activities in the General Internal Medicine Outpatient Clinic at South Health Campus. The LPN provides care to outpatients under the supervision of the Registered Nurse or Physician in clinic and the Patient Care Manager.
Graduation from a Licensed Practical Nurse program required. Current successful completion of a BCLS program is required. Current registration with the college of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) required - must provide written proof of license during interview. 3 years of recent experience in acute care setting required. Previous outpatient experience preferred. Previous preceptorship experience preferred. Must have a sound understanding of medical protocols, medications and skills to adequately assess, triage, deliver patient teaching and coordinate care. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated strong critical thinking skills, within scope of practice, including clinical judgement and problem solving skills required. Medication administration certificate an asset. Must be organized, motivated and self directed. Ability to function effectively in a fast paced changing environment. Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment. Must be able to assist patients with mobility problems. Experience using electronic medical records (EMR's) and scheduling software preferred. Proven ability to learn new software. Must submit current resume with application. Criminal record check required. Must present SIN (Social Insurance Number) during interview. Must be able to work in a physically challenging environment: constant walking, lifting and bending is necessary.
