A nurse practitioner (NP) is an advanced practice nurse who, at minimum, holds a Master's degree and a nurse practitioner certificate from an accredited nursing program with experience in Urology. The NP role includes five inter-related components:
1) clinical practice
80-90% of time will be allocated to the provision of clinical care-assessment, diagnosis and treatment of inpatient and outpatient urology patients documentation, direct referrals to appropriate health care professionals and services and liaise with members of interdisciplinary health teams. The remaining time will be spent fulfilling the other components of the role.
The Nurse Practitioner demonstrates competence in professional practice; implements strategies to promote health and prevent illness. They must be proficient in interventions relating to the assessment and care of the urology population. The NP also advises on and directs administrative concerns through appropriate channels and reports on the outcome. As a consistent member of the urology service the NP also aides in the facilitation of changes in practice within the multidisciplinary team. As a result the NP acts frequently as a "problem solver" for complex issues involving patient care.
Salary/Benefits: This position is classified as a P4-1. Minimum $84,750.00 to maximum $127,250.00 annually.
Member of the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta - Nurse Practitioner Roster Masters of Nursing degree Post-Masters Nurse Practitioner Diploma BCLS-HCP required ACLS preferred
Minimum: Three years recent acute care clinical nursing experience.
Preferred: Five years recent acute care clinical nursing experience with experience in an advanced practice role – Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
