The Nursing Attendant is a member of the CHaPS program - Rotary Flames House staff team and is responsible for providing direct care to assist in the activities of daily living, comfort and safety of the child/youth and their family while they are guests of the House, and provides indirect services to support the overall provision of care within the Rotary/Flames House. These services are provided under supervision and direction of the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), Registered Nurse (RN) or regulated healthcare professional in accordance with their designated colleges’ supervision guidelines. The type of supervision (direct or indirect) will depend on the complexity of the task or procedure being assigned, the stability of the patient/client/resident and the skill level of the nursing assistant performing it.
  • Successful completion of a recognized Personal Care Attendant/Health Care Worker (Nursing Attendant) program or equivalent education program (e.g. second or third year nursing student) and work experience required.
  • Successful completion of a BCLS Heart Saver program is required.
  • Previous work experience in healthcare or palliative care required, pediatric experience preferred.
  • Able to read, write and speak English fluently.
  • Able to communicate effectively with patients, families and staff and understand nursing instructions.
  • Organize and deliver safe care to patients.
  • Work independently but maintain collaborative, effective work relationships with program staff and community professionals.
  • Demonstrate understanding, patience and sensitivity when relating to patients, families and visitors.
  • Able to implement Child Health policy and procedure and utilize Rotary/Flames House staff manual.
