The Outreach Worker I is a member of the Integrated Justice Services Program (IJSP) team, a multi disciplinary group of professionals working with offenders who are considered to be high risk to re-offend. Reporting to the Manager, the Outreach Worker assists the IJSP team in their work with offenders who are living in the Calgary community. This includes liaison duties at court, gathering information used in sentencing, and assisting with initial assessments. The Outreach Worker provides a service that consists of activities that assist the offenders to manage their households, handle their personal affairs, self-administer medications, and help ensure that they maintain their community tenure. This includes supporting the client in connecting with community services, attending appointments, establishing appropriate recreation/leisure activities and learning life skills to help clients achieve greater independence. The position assists clients and families to navigate the addiction and mental health system. It focuses on collaboration between providers, the minimization of barriers, and avoiding duplication of services. It is advocacy focused, teaching clients and families the skills they need to effectively negotiate the complex living and services system.
Completion of a diploma in a human service discipline such as Criminology, Licensed Practical Nurse or Social Work is required (degree preferred) Current registration with the appropriate professional college or association, if applicable Two years experience in the addiction and mental health field is essential, preferably in a correctional setting. BLS-C (Basic Rescuer) required Enhanced Security Screening Driver’s license and reliable vehicle Training or education specific to the addiction and mental health needs of forensic clients Non Violent Crisis Intervention
- Vehicle Required - Required to provide a vehicle for business use; along with acceptable driver's abstract and proof of business insurance
