Minimum: 31.31 per hour Maximum: 34.35 per hour
Under limited supervision, performs a wide variety of journeyman level painting and resurfacing duties requiring considerable initiative and judgement and in accordance with accepted quality standards, industry practices and department policy.

Representative duties include providing advice and recommendations on building, equipment and furniture surface applications; selecting, mixing and applying liquid coatings, wall paper, plaster and tiling; assisting in design and implementation of a preventive maintenance program; coordinating and assigning work of non-journeyman assistants; preparing cost estimates and related reports; and requisitioning or ordering supplies.
  • Provides technical advice and recommendations on appropriate surface applications and preparations desired to obtain protective or decorative effect; strips or prepares building, equipment and furniture surfaces for surface applications; selects, mixes and applies paint, stains, varnishes, cements and plasters; hangs wall paper, installs tiling; plasters walls; letters and stencils signs; clean up of work area
  • Assists in design and implementation of a scheduled painting program; recommends repair work required; coordinates repair schedules with other maintenance staff; maintains appropriate records and logs
  • Coordinates and assigns the work of and trains non-journeyman workers assigned to assist with painting and resurfacing projects
  • Prepares cost estimates and related reports; requisitions supplies, equipment and materials
  • Performs other related duties as required
  • Journeyman Painters Certificate in the Province of Alberta or equivalent
  • Five years painting experience, with two in an institutional setting
  • Must be familiar with a variety of painting tools, equipment and techniques used in the maintenance program
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision. Cooperative and willingness to perform routine, repetitive tasks on a continuous basis
  • Strong interpersonal skills and able to work effectively independently or in a team setting
