The Foothills Medical Centre is an Acute Care hospital with over 1,100 beds. It is also the Trauma Centre for Southern Alberta, Eastern British Columbia and Western Saskatchewan. FMC has a Neuro Tertiary Unit as well as the majority of In Patient Neurological services in Calgary.

The Allied Health Department works collaboratively with all the clinical teams spread across the whole campus of the Foothills Medical Centre, including the new McCaig Tower which houses state of the art ICU and Operating Rooms.

All staff hired into the Allied Health Department may be required to work in a variety of settings across the Campus.

Under general supervision from the Clinical Leader and Allied Health Supervisors, this position is responsible for the assessment of patients referred to the service as well as development, implementation and evaluation of individual treatment programs according to professional practice standards.

This is a floater position on the Medicine-Surgery-Trauma (MST) team. The successful candidate for this position could be trained to and could provide coverage to a number of different service areas, including orthopaedics, medicine, trauma, surgery, ICU, cardio-vascular-thoracic units, and/or burns/wounds. The position will move to different service areas for different amounts of time, as required by PT caseloads and operational demands.

All Physiotherapists hired into positions within the Allied Health Department at the Foothills Medical Centre will be strongly encouraged to develop the competency to help cover critical care areas within the hospital (i.e. ICU). Training and support will be provided to all new physiotherapists to help develop this competency.

This position is physically demanding and requires repetitive lifting and transferring of patients and or equipment.

  • Bachelor or Master's level degree in Physical Therapy or equivalent required by first day of work
  • Active license with PACA - by first day of work
  • BCLS-HCP Level C required by first day of work
  • Recent experience providing physiotherapy interventions to patients in an acute hospital setting preferred
  • Effective self management skills and demonstrated initiative
  • Able to work effectively in an interdisciplinary environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required
