PLC Unit 34B, Northeast and Northwest Dialysis Units are dynamic and energetic units dedicated to providing excellent patient and family centered care. Our units value a strong team culture and positive learning experiences. The units are comprised of many levels of nursing and multidisciplinary care providers who are instrumental in providing the best health management and support to our patients and families.

Working under the direction of the Unit Manager, the incumbent provides assistance to the Unit Manager responsible for the following clinical areas: PLC Unit 34B, Northeast and Northwest Dialysis Units. The Secretary supports the overall functioning of the Unit by providing the following:
  • A variety of clerical and administrative support duties to promote operation of the units.
  • Builds and maintains positive partnerships with unit staff, members of the interdisciplinary team, the Southern Alberta Renal Program and AHS.
  • Communication of information - the secretary plays a vital role in facilitating communication between the manager, unit staff, other health disciplines, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of information.
  • Booking meetings and appointments.
  • Accurate Record keeping and maintenance.
  • Attention to detail
  • Travel between sites is required
  • Graduate of a Secretarial Arts Course or equivalent required.
  • Medical Terminology Course required.
  • 2 to 3 years secretarial or support experience, preferably in a health care environment.
  • Advanced PC skills and keyboarding skills (type with accuracy 65 wpm, Microsoft Word for Windows, Power Point, Excel, Visio, Access or other equivalent data base).
  • Skilled in the recording of minutes and summarizing data for distribution.
  • Experience working with Collective Agreements desired.
  • Experience with Payroll and/or Scheduling Software required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and relationship building skills required.
  • Ability to compile information and submit well constructed letters and reports.
  • Self-directed and able to work under minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills and pleasant telephone manner required.
  • High level of confidentiality required.
  • Demonstrated consistent attention to detail.
  • Ability to problem-solve independently.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle competing and frequently changing priorities, within tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated time management and organization skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Ability to exercise judgment, professionalism, diplomacy and discretion when dealing with sensitive and confidential issues.
