In a multi-functional team environment, this position provides specialized administrative and secretarial support to two or more cardiologists for their clinical, teaching, research, and administrative activities. The successful incumbent will perform duties of a sensitive and confidential nature. This position works independently in a complex environment and performs multiple tasks involving shifting priorities and deadlines.
Grade 12 plus additional recognized medical secretarial training (i.e. graduate of a medical secretarial college or business program) required. Medical Terminology course preferred. Minimum 3 to 5 years medical office or related experience required. Able to type 60 to 70 wpm. Proficient in the use of computers and various network software applications including online scheduling, email, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Visio flow-charting. Excellent interpersonal, communication and analytical skills. Self directed and able to work under minimal supervision. Ability to work under pressure and handle competing and frequently changing priorities with very tight deadlines. Demonstrated problem solving and decision making skills are necessary to anticipate, identify, and independently recommend appropriate actions to complex administrative problems. Must be flexible in order to accommodate changing workload demands. Must be able to exercise judgment, tact, diplomacy, and discretion when dealing with highly sensitive and confidential issues. Demonstrated time management and organizational skills. Cardiology or Internal Medicine experience is an asset. Required to be a strong team player.
