The Foothills Medical Centre is an Acute Care hospital with over 1,100 beds. It is also the Trauma Centre for Southern Alberta, Eastern British Columbia and Western Saskatchewan. FMC has a Neuro Tertiary Unit as well as the majority of In Patient Neurological services in Calgary.
The Allied Health Department works collaboratively with all the clinical teams spread across the whole campus of the Foothills Medical Centre, including the upcoming opening of the new McCaig Tower which will house state of the art ICU and Operating Rooms.
All staff hired into the Allied Health Department may be required to work in a variety of settings across the Campus.
The present caseload for this position is in Medicine/Surgey, this may be subject to change based on operational considerations. Under general supervision from the Clinical Leader and Allied Health Supervisors, this position is responsible for the assessment of patients referred to the service as well as development, implementation and evaluation of individual treatment programs according to professional practice standards.
Bachelor of Social Work degree required; Current registration with Alberta College of Social Workers required Experience in health care setting preferred Recent experience in working with patients/families facing chronic illness preferred Demonstrated extensive knowledge of community resources required Strong clinical assessment and counseling skills required Ability to establish positive working relationships with a wide variety of patients and families Demonstrated ability to function effectively within the interdisciplinary team Ability to organize and set priorities Excellent communication skills, written and verbal Considerable initiative and judgment required BCLS-CHP required
