Salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The Supervisor performs a management role in the provision of food services at the site / unit level and reports directly to the Manager. Responsibilities and accountabilities include:
  • provides frontline staff direction and supervision
  • monitors day to day food service activities and provides oversight to the operation
  • appropriate menu and diet guideline implementation
  • ensures safe work practice and conditions
  • makes site / unit level food service decisions in a complex, regulated food service environment
  • reviews and monitors operational food, supply and labour expenses to achieve departmental budget targets
  • participates in the design and implementation of menus that meet local customer profiles, cost factors, labour productivity targets and standards set by NFS
  • promotes quality improvement and staff engagement in operational problem solving
  • acts as key contact to site administration and patient care for matters relating to Patient Food Services
  • performs human resources management in compliance with the current collective agreement and Delegation of Human Resource Authority policy
  • participates in monitoring and analyzing expenses and revenues against established budgets to achieve departmental financial goals
  • evaluates monthly / yearly budget reports, identifying and following up on variances
  • provides recommendations as required on funding requirements and allocations
  • completes month end financial reports as required and / or provides documents to clerical staff to complete month end financial processes

    Salary / Benefits: This position is classified as M1-2. Minimum $56,250.00 to maximum $84,500.00 annually.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years in a Patient Food Services / Health Care management role, ideally in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity.

    Education: Post secondary degree, diploma or certificate in Nutrition and Food Service Management. Combination of relevant education and experience will be considered. Safe Food Handling Certification and WHMIS training are an asset.
  • ability to follow and apply the Nutrition and Food Services Diet Guidelines in the execution of menus and patient / resident choice and specific diet order. Healthcare experience is preferred
  • effective communicator with strong organizational skills, influential skills, client focused orientation and commitment to providing quality services
  • leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others
  • ability to manage human, financial and physical resources within a fast paced time sensitive work environment
  • proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals
  • strong track record in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • demonstrated ability to implement change and handle competing priorities without close supervision
  • schedule work, assign resources effectively and think critically in a multi-tasking operating environment
  • contract (union) experience
  • proficiency with computer applications used at the site level such as e-mail, MS Office, Meditech / CBORD
  • automobile and valid driver’s license as between site travel may be required
