The Testing Systems Analyst III reports to the eCritical Technical Lead and is a member of the applications support team.
  • Working independently, with minimal guidance, and through collaboration with eCritical Development, eCritical Technical Support and various other application teams to ensure reliable testing and due diligence in promoting changes to the province wide Critical Care Clinical Information Systems.
  • Resolves complex enterprise wide testing initiatives independently or through collaborative initiatives with others, with minimal guidance, by applying broad perspective and best testing practices to identify innovative solutions.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience; may guide the work of newer staff members.
  • Analyze and recommend standards for testing but also provide innovative non standard testing solutions to customers’ enterprise wide application tests and business needs.
  • Understands technical and functional design requirements.
  • Works with clinicians to understand clinical usage of application.
  • Erroneous actions have potential impact to patient care and patient safety.
  • Will work in partnership with vendors, cross functional teams and clinicians in testing.

    Major Accountabilities:
  • Critical Care Clinical Information System Operational Support.
  • Uses specialized knowledge to investigate, analyze and design testing requirements, test plans and test scripts of complex inter-related clinical information systems that are essential to the business functions of a clinical program on a province wide basis.
  • Uses specialized knowledge to develop and assist with the maintenance of complex test environment strategies in conjunction with other IT teams to ensure best utilization of complex province wide inter-related test environments and associated resources.
  • Coordinates with clinical personnel on problem scope, impact, and characteristics to document production (live system) issues.
  • Uses understanding of the clinical business function, the operation of the existing system and best practice knowledge of the technology used within the system to effectively triage, diagnose, and test problems.
  • Creates and updates test plans, test scripts, best practice testing guidelines, and protocols.
  • Responsible for adequate testing of changes in system architecture and configuration, content customization, and vendor software fixes and upgrades.
  • Participates in production validation and as required uses conceptual and practical experience to investigate, diagnose, and resolve clinical information system problems for systems that often essential to the business functions of a Critical Care program or department.
  • Coordinates with clinical personnel on problem scope, impact, and characteristics and identifies complex problem causes; makes appropriate decisions on resolution and interim work around.
  • Uses understanding of clinical operations, the operation of the existing system and knowledge of technology used within the system to effectively diagnose problems.
  • Follows all protocols and coordinates staff to ensure all solutions are thoroughly tested in order to assure the stability of production system operations.
  • Creates and updates support and testing documents and procedures.

    IT Process Improvement:
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience, mentoring and suggesting more efficient work approach.
  • Recommends and implements best practices related to testing.
  • Identifies IT department improvements and may lead initiatives to improve internal process effectiveness.

    Delivering Solutions:
  • Identifies and understands issues within the Critical Care Clinical Information Systems implementations.
  • Communicates with stakeholders to understand the problem.
  • Coordinates testing resources to ensure implementation does not have a broad reaching adverse effect on business processes.
  • Influences staff and vendors to complete tasks on schedule.
  • Development of and recommendations to test plans, primarily relying on own judgment and input from team. Gathers and interprets client requirements. Applies emerging best practice, specialized experience, knowledge of AHS strategies, and own judgment to recommend innovative testing solutions to situations with multiple complex options.
  • Thoroughly testing solutions to ensure patient safety while meeting strict timelines.
  • Coordinates technical tasks required to prepare and execute testing.
  • May be required to coordinate other IT team members, and non-direct reports, to test the solution, with minimal reliance on management.
  • Stakeholders to this process include front line clinical staff, physicians, AHS management at various levels, and software and hardware vendors.
  • Ensure all technical solutions are appropriate and to follow all procedures and protocols to maintain reliability of the LIVE software environment.

    Impact:
  • Uses judgment, experience, and consultation with clinical stakeholders to recommend a selection of technical or workflow solutions to issues discovered.
  • Assess the risk to system stability and potential impact to patient safety posed by software changes on development and production environments.
  • Plan the testing of any changes to the applications.
  • Changes to processes can broadly affect client business process and users.
  • Coordinates urgent, complex testing and other operational requests to find timely resolution for clinical application releases and programs. Coordinates problem resolution / testing team composed of clinical application support and IT staff. Ensures appropriate prioritization of request, finds interim work around, selects best of multiple complex options to resolve problem. Timely and correct choice of action broadly impacts client business process efficiency and program outcomes.
  • The Testing Analyst III is expected to explain concepts to non-technical clinical stakeholders. Often the preferred approach involves consensus building on trade-offs among the objectives of clinical departments, which may require escalation to management for resolution. Stakeholders to this process include front line clinical staff, AHS management at various levels, and physicians

    Project Leadership:
  • Often participates in project and operational teams in moderate sized projects (moderate risk, scope and complexity) or leads a project sub-team responsible for delivering a complex set of inter-related tasks, within a larger project, lead by a formal project manager.
  • Participates as specialized subject matter expert on project teams to recommend enterprise wide innovative non standard solutions based on best practices, and understanding of AHS environment and strategy.
  • May be required to manage project expenditures related to testing for projects with limited risk, scope and complexity.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate testing of solutions to meet project requirements, with minimal guidance.
  • Monitors testing progress and due dates, escalating potential problems early and communicating them effectively.
  • Participates as subject matter expert on project teams to provide testing strategies based on best practices, industry standards, and AHS policy.

    Customer Relationship Management and Advocacy:
  • Maintains active communication with stakeholders of similar or connected application systems related to testing of system changes.
  • Proposes solutions to increase testing or system efficiencies and implements approved changes.
  • Explains difficult issues with multiple possible solutions and influences senior level customers and their vendors and IT stakeholders to adopt a recommended solution.
  • Consults with customer on system testing strategies. Uses knowledge of AHS IT and business strategies and influences customer thinking about IT strategy implications to their business processes and goals.
  • Works closely with other IT groups to manage solution for customer. Takes ownership of customer issues, and champions them within IT as a whole.

    Salary will be commensurate with skills and abilities.
  • Expertise:
  • Minimum educational requirement is diploma in information technology, information sciences, or related discipline. Prefer graduate of a recognised degree program in information technology, information sciences, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with manual and automated testing.
  • Experience with performance and load testing.
  • Experience with writing database queries against complex data schemas.
  • Prefer experience with complex, enterprise, distributed client-server applications.
  • Prefer experience testing applications accessed via Citrix.
  • Prefer experience with testing IS automated testing tools.
  • Prefer applicants with understanding of integrated systems and have a background in computer programming methodologies.
  • Previous experience in a functional leadership, deliverable coordinator, or project manager capacity an asset.
  • Experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Working knowledge of healthcare and understands patient care dependencies with the work performed.
  • Detailed oriented, goal focused.
  • Applies best practices and knowledge of internal organization/external industry challenges to improve processes or services.
  • Prefer experience with device integrations.
  • Has developed conceptual and practical expertise in testing.
