Working under the general supervision and guidance of the Supervisor, Registration, Switchboard and Patient Information - Calgary Rural, this position performs a variety of clerical duties related to interviewing patients/parents to obtain correct demographic information, entering information on the ADT computer systems and completing registrations, answering phones and processing calls and other related duties.

The position serves as a point of initial contact for persons seeking treatment at Cochrane Community Health Center through any of the Admitting areas. The position collects hospital fees for uninsured and out-of-country services when the Business Office is closed. Other duties include answering telephones, greeting the public, and directing individuals accordingly.

The employee shall maintain confidentiality of all CHR information in accordance with HIA, FOIP and other privacy legislation in effect and shall comply at all times with CHR's Information Privacy and Information Security policies.
  • Grade 12 or equivalent required.
  • Medical Terminology required.
  • Admitting Clerk Course/Medical Office Assistant/Unit Clerk Course and/or experience satisfactory to the employer.
  • Experience in a health care or medical office setting preferred.
  • Prior experience working with the public an asset.
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language both written and oral.
  • Maintains a professional image and demonstrated ability to remain calm, courteous, sensitive and tactful.
  • Accurate and proficient keyboarding skills.
  • 40 WPM (Net) required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency of Netscape and Windows (Microsoft Word, Excel and Access).
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under stress.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
