The position provides coordination for a variety of functions within the Volunteer Resources Department in support of the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services. Working under limited guidance, this position is responsible for site specific expertise in volunteer management processes; recruitment, selection, screening, placement, orientation, recognition, and evaluation.

The Program Assistant is also responsible for:
  • Ensuring an adequate volunteer pool is maintained with appropriate volunteers (selection and screening) to provide programs that meet the acceptable standard of practice and support the vision and mission of the department and AHS.
  • Supervision and ongoing evaluation of volunteer performance including routine dismissal. Monitoring and evaluating volunteer placements and programs within facility community to ensure they meet the needs and objectives of staff, volunteers and clients.
  • Planning for continual improvement of volunteer involvement through facilitation and feedback from volunteers, staff and clients regarding quality and value of service.
  • Ensures adherence to all AHS policies and procedures.
  • Developing personal knowledge of emerging trends and new methodologies in order to react to changes in the environment. Advocates for volunteerism and the profession of Volunteer Resources Management.

    Salary/Benefits: This position si classified as a T2-1. Minimum $41,500.00 to maximum $58,000.00 annually.
  • A certificate in volunteer management or similar human service field and office administration is required. CAVR Membership is preferred.
  • Personal volunteer experience is required.
  • Minimum of two year related experience in a volunteer service environment ideally in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity is preferred (healthcare experience an asset).
  • An equivalent combination of experience, education and training may be considered.
  • A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development.

    In addition, the incumbent will possess a record of accomplishment in the following areas:
  • General knowledge of the client group / function supported and the standards, policies and procedures.
  • Experience as a team member in project planning, execution, reporting, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Understanding of physical and human resource management principles, concepts and impacts.
  • Knowledge and skills in problem solving and concerns resolution.
  • Strong commitment to operating within a team environment and the ability to work with others to achieve common goals.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, influential skills, client focused orientation and commitment to providing quality services.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders to respond to standard requests and relay information.
  • Experience in research, data analysis and/or interpretation, evaluation methodologies, and developing effective reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate change.
  • Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals within a large, diverse organization and managing within a unionized environment.
