Academic Preventive Medicine Physician
The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Division of Preventive Medicine, in partnership with Alberta Health Services, invites applications for an Academic Clinical Track physician. The Division of Preventive Medicine is responsible for two Royal College residency programs (in Public Health/Preventive Medicine and in Occupational Medicine) and has a thriving research program in preventive, occupational and global health. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions and has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools. Alberta Health Services is Canada’s largest and only provincial health region providing services for a population of over 3 million people.
The successful candidate will be an MD with specialist training in public health/preventive medicine, and a record of academic research and publication. S/he will be offered a tenure-track or tenured appointment in the Department of Medicine. Academic rank will be dependent on the successful candidate's experience and/or current University rank, appointment to the level of assistant, associate or full professor. This position will be part of the Alternative Funding Plan, which offers a very competitive remuneration package with excellent benefits.
The expected start date will be January 1, 2013, but the exact starting date is negotiable. Key accountabilities will include but are not limited to resident training, particularly within the University of Alberta residency program in public health/preventive medicine. Research in the field of public health/preventive medicine in collaboration with colleagues within the Division, Department and with Alberta Health Services is expected. Clinical/professional responsibilities will be as agreed upon with Alberta Health Services and the Department of Medicine.
Candidates must hold an MD or equivalent and must be eligible for licensure within the Province of Alberta, CPSA. They must have completed training in preventative medicine and must be registered with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons or equivalent.
