The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, in partnership with Alberta Health Services’ Clinical Department of Addictions and Mental Health, is seeking Adult Psychiatrists. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the University of Alberta has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. Alberta Health Services is Canada’s largest and only provincial health region providing services for a population of over 3 million people.

Alberta Hospital, Edmonton sits on a self-contained campus of 275 acres in northeast Edmonton. It is a 304 bed facility offering Adult Rehabilitation and Forensic Psychiatric inpatient and community services.

Our Adult Psychiatry Program serves individuals with severe, persistent and complex mental health issues, as well as individuals with co-occuring addiction issues. The inpatient Adult Psychiatry Program offers treatment by an interdisciplinary team consisting of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, family physicians, and nurses. As each person’s needs are uniqure, the care is individualized to best support their recovery and successful reintegration back to their home environment.

There are four acute units; one of which is a (16 bed) Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit and the other three are (28 bed) Acute Assessment & Treatment units. Rehabilitation Services consists of four inpatient units consisting of 82 Rehab beds.

The facility is currently undergoing a 15 million dollar redevelopment which is due to be completed in 2014 that will add an additional 80 inpatient beds.

The successful candidate will have an MD and must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Psychiatry, for licensure in the province of Alberta.

Remuneration is based on a fee-for-service basis and is highly competitive with other North American jurisdictions.
