Salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Reporting to the Manager, Data Management, the Data Analyst will be part of a team satisfying the data and information needs of Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) throughout the province. As a subject matter expert, the position is a key member of the Data Management team and collaborates in the adoption, adaptation, implementation and maintenance of data and information reporting standards. The position requires working with both technical and non-technical staff as well as business groups from both Alberta Health Services and external stakeholders. This position will play an increasing role in the implementation of a new data system and business intelligence informatics within WHS.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
  • Enabling decision support by compiling, analyzing, interpreting, testing/validating and reporting from diverse, multiple and complex data sets.
  • Managing and executing on deliverables for one or more WHS projects or initiatives that are small to medium in scope.
  • Ensuring the effective functioning of data capture tools used by both professional and support staff across WHS.
  • Providing technical support to data collection and data management initiatives.
  • Participate in development of reports, dashboards, and portals.
  • Provide project, system and other technical documentation as required.
  • Defining and refining technical needs of information systems and databases.
  • Designing functionality such as table structures, data dictionaries and data subsets.
  • Developing and/or implementing new data collection and data management procedures.
  • Assess and recommend the need for data cleansing initiatives for the purpose of purging and eliminating corrupt information in the WHS data repository.
  • Liaise with different IS groups on technical matters related to WHS databases.
  • Analyzing business processes related to data management and recommending best practices
  • Stay current in technologies and trends affecting data warehouse/business intelligence development.

    Salary will commensurate with skills and abilities.
  • Degree or Diploma in Information Technology, Information Sciences or related discipline
  • 3-5 years experience with data modeling, databases and data structures.
  • 3-5 years data analysis experience.
  • Health care industry knowledge and experience an asset.
  • Experience with data warehouses, data analysis methods, tools and techniques.
  • Experience with business intelligence.
  • Strong analytical and problem resolution skills.
  • Experience with statistical analysis.
