Minimum: 36.69 per hour Maximum: 48.74 per hour
Reporting to the Manager, Quality Control, Nutrition and Food Services, the Food Services Quality Control Analyst is responsible for the provincial coordination, development, evaluation and maintenance of a quality control program in Nutrition and Food Services.

The incumbent provides leadership and operational support to ensure the consistent application of:
  • Food quality specifications for provincial patient menu items.
  • Provincial policies and procedures in accordance with government regulations and food safety standards (i.e. HACCP).

    Key responsibilities are defined within the following categories:
  • Provincial Patient Menu Development
  • Product Sourcing and Evaluation
  • Recipe Development and Evaluation
  • Product Ingredient, Allergen, and Nutritional Information
  • Food Safety
  • Quality Assurance
  • Formal Education
  • Completion of a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition and Food Science. Equivalencies will be considered.

  • Training in food safety and HACCP.
  • Training in the sensory evaluation of food.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of current and progressively responsible experience in institutional/hospital food service (quality control and menu development) or food manufacturing (quality control and product development).
  • At least two (2) years current and progressively responsible experience in a multi-site healthcare organization comprised of acute, mixed and long-term care sites is preferred.
  • Experience in food quality control techniques and standards, including sensory evaluation and objective measurements for assessing food quality and safety.
  • Research experience with the ability to conduct qualitative and quantitative evaluations.
  • Experience with implementing new plans independently with little direct supervision.
  • Experience in patient food service operations
  • Experience with menu planning is preferred.

  • Knowledge relating to food manufacturing, including cook/chill and cook/freeze food service systems.
  • Proficient with Windows-based computers and programs (e.g. Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access).
  • Knowledge of automated food service information systems (e.g. CBORD) is preferred.
  • Strong customer service, interpersonal, communication, organizational, leadership, teamwork, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize work, handle multiple demands in a busy environment, and to ensure detail and accuracy in all work.

  • Requires good physical and mental health. Ability to lift up to 30 lb, engage in occasional pulling and pushing of carts, work in temperature controlled rooms (including fridge and freezer units), and occasionally stand or walk for the majority of shift.
  • May be required to occasionally work irregular hours/shifts due to 7 day/week operations. Occasional travel to and from NFS sites or vendors is required.
