The School/Preschool Speech Consultant position is a leadership position in Public Health programs. The School/Preschool Speech Consultant works in collaboration with the Program Manager, Director, and the Speech-Language Leadership team to assess, coordinate, implement and evaluate primary health service, necessary change management, as well as works with internal and external partners to identify new opportunities and/or address service gaps. The Program Consultant facilitates professional development and coordinates orientation of new staff from a regional perspective. This position reports to the Program Manager, Child & Youth Health.

THIS IS A TEMPORARY FULL TIME POSITION ENDING ON OR BEFORE AUGUST 9, 2013
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Must possess a Masters Degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Active ACSLPA membership. A minimum of 3 years relevant program experience ideally in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity. Evidence of ongoing professional development.

    SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES
  • Knowledge in the theory and practice of public health which includes epidemiology, research, health promotion, determinants of health, community development and health beliefs and practices of various cultures.
  • Excellent assessment and clinical skills applicable to program area.
  • Demonstrated experience with project/program management, including, program assessment, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in quality improvement practices.
  • Demonstrated skill in the development and support of research based practice.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a variety of disciplines, sectors, and internal and external stakeholders/partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (written, verbal and interpersonal).
  • Solid understanding of capacity building principles and practice.
  • Understanding of behavior change management principles and dynamics; able to act as a change agent.
  • Strong problem solving, decision making and critical thinking skills including conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
  • Proven skills in group presentation, facilitation and team building.
  • Able to work, adapt and respond within a complex, ever-changing environment.
  • Good working knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office, email, and internet access.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Required packing, lifting and transporting of supplies to various work sites.
  • Requires prolonged computer and phone use.
  • Travel required.
  • Valid driver's license and vehicle required.

    • Vehicle Required - Required to provide a vehicle for business use; along with acceptable driver's abstract and proof of business insurance
