Minimum: 31.63 per hour Maximum: 41.65 per hour
Perform a variety of manual and automated procedures proficiently to produce accurate and timely results. Specialized techniques include procurement of nucleic acids, analytical methods such as gel electrophoresis, DNA sequencing, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) including real-time PCR, fragment analysis and fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH). Perform routine maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting of various laboratory instruments. The incumbent will maintain legible, accurate and dated records in a well organized manner to either meet or exceed quality system essential requirements including maintaining confidentiality; enter, validate and release test results. The successful applicant will assist with training of new employees, students and/or residents in Molecular Pathology techniques. This position requires a high level of attention to detail and must be highly skilled at pipetting minute volumes of samples and reagents with good reproducibility and precision. The successful candidate must represent Genetic Lab Services in a respectful, professional and courteous manner.
Degree in Molecular Biology or Genetics preferred. Graduate of an approved school of Medical Laboratory Technology minimum. Successful completion of the Genetics Technology Graduate Diploma Program through BCIT or Michener Institute would be an asset. Current registration with the Alberta College of Medical Laboratory Technologists (ACMLT) is required. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Current experience with molecular methodologies is required. Individuals with working knowledge of fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) preferred with practical experience in Cytogenetics ideal. Successful candidate must have an understanding of molecular theory, quality control, instrumentation, laboratory information systems (LIS) and lab accreditation. Proficiency with windows based computer applications is mandatory.
