Public Health Nurse (PHN) required based at or out of the Northeast Community Health Centre. The PHN is a key position working in partnership with a multidisciplinary team. The PHN partners together with community stakeholders to provide integrated, strength based, family centered care in various settings. Nursing services include: provision of universal Public Health services including antenatal / prenatal care; routine postnatal care; health assessment, counseling, screening, immunization; follow up; and referral, linkage, advocacy, consultation, and teaching as they relate to healthy young families and school aged children, adults and seniors. The PHN is required to pack, lift, move, and transport heavy or awkward supplies to various work sites. Service delivery may require walking several blocks and climbing several flights of stairs, sitting, standing, and / or bending for long periods of time, awkward and repetitive movements. The PHN practice of this position will focus mostly as a PHN in the Child Health Clinic and Immunization Innovation Team programs.
Baccalaureate degree in nursing (BN), Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Bachelor of Nursing (BScN) is preferred, but other skill and experience relevant to nursing practice in the community sector will be considered. Current registration with CARNA required; Canadian Nurses Association Certification in Community Health Nursing an asset; International Board of Lactation Consultants certification an asset; Recent experience in public health nursing, in particular Child Health Clinic, is preferred. Other desirable recent nursing experience includes maternal / postpartum and newborn assessment and care preferred; Recent immunization experience preferred; Ability to be self directed and to exercise independent nursing judgment required; Strong interpersonal skills required; Experience in interdisciplinary team work required; Experience working with teens, diverse cultures, and marginalized populations and knowledge and understanding of the determinants of health and health promotion required; strong written and oral communication skills required; Strong analytical, critical thinking, decision making, and organizational skills required; Current BCLS-HCP Registration required. Working knowledge of computer applications including basic word processing, email, Internet access and data entry is required.
This position requires a vehicle for business use. Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle in good repair for work-related travel is required.
Responsible to provide proof of active registration with the College & Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) and to maintain registration throughout the duration of employment.
