The successful candidate will provide support to the University of Alberta Hospital Transfusion Medicine laboratory by supervising, coaching and mentoring the Medical Laboratory Assistants within the department. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to: monitoring daily workflow and workload as well as making adjustments to staffing as necessary, scheduling and payroll duties, inventory and supply review, maintenance, troubleshooting and providing input and support for site and zonal Transfusion Medicine initiatives.
Additional duties include: providing assistance to the laboratory by receiving and sorting specimens, performing laboratory computer inquiries and data entry, monitoring stock levels of blood products, ordering blood products from Canadian Blood Services, receiving and processing blood products and packaging and shipping blood products to other sites within the Edmonton Zone.
Grade 12 high school diploma. Graduate of a recognized Medical Laboratory Training program. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Recent experience in Transfusion Medicine is an asset. Successful demonstration of laboratory skills and data entry is required. Working within a team environment, good interpersonal skills, effective time management and the ability to set priorities are necessary. The successful candidate must be adaptable and flexible within an environment of change and interruptions. The selected candidate will have the ability to listen, comprehend and orally respond to or relay information, directions or questions in person, over the phone, or in writing in an accurate, clear and concise manner. The successful candidate must represent Laboratory Medicine in a respectful, professional and courteous manner.
