We will have a vacancy from mid November for a part time Unit Clerk. While working in an acute care setting, the Unit Clerk for Unit 1 East will function as a key coordinator in a fast-paced nursing unit. The Unit Clerk provides clerical support to staff and physicians on the nursing unit. This includes handling or referring incoming phone calls, greeting and directing visitors and patients and ensuring that the whereabouts of staff is known at all times. The Unit Clerk manages the information flow between Physicians, Nurses and Allied Health professionals. This includes relaying information related to admissions, transfers and discharge of patients, diagnostic tests, medical treatments, medications and pre- and post-operative treatments as requested. This position also transcribes and processes Doctor's orders including medication orders, laboratory orders, diagnostic imaging orders, other diagnostic studies and treatment orders. The Unit Clerk manages patient records and charts and may prepare and submit health care billings on behalf of Physicians for a variety of procedures, treatments and services.
Graduation from a recognized Unit Clerk certificate program with practicum component or equivalent and medical terminology are required. Current CPR (BCLS-HCP) certification is an asset. 12 months, recent continuous (within 1 year) related experience in a fast-paced environment with numerous interruptions is essential. Exceptional communication and organizational skills are required. Excellent computer skills are preferred. Previous Unit Clerk experience is essential. Candidates with in hospital experience will be preferred.
