Shifts per Cycle: 30 shifts
Length of Shift Cycle: 12 weeks

*Remote Retention Allowance: In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Reporting to the Area Manager, Public Health is Alberta Health Services “front line” representative in delivering primary health services in the community. The incumbent uses the nursing process that includes: health assessment, health planning, health education, supportive counseling, preventative and screening measures, referrals and evaluation as appropriate. The Public Health Nurse provides services to individuals, families, groups, communities and provides service in homes to new mothers and babies. A generalist position is one that may be scheduled in any site designated in the posting, not to exceed three (3) sites, furthest two (2) sites being no more than one hundred (100) kilometers apart.

Active registration with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA);
Graduate of a recognized School of Nursing;
Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred; however, skills and experience relevant to nursing practice in community sector will be considered;
Public Health Nursing experience required;
Successful completion of and current certification for CPR;

Must have access to transportation, proof of valid driver’s license and proof of business insurance upon hire

Ability to:

  • Assess, plan, provide and evaluate the care of clients;
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with clients, co-workers, physicians and public;
  • Plan and organize time and resources effectively;
  • Make sound judgments and maintain confidentiality;
  • Work independently as well as part of a diverse team;
  • Function effectively in a dynamic work environment;
  • Computer literacy;
  • Provide coverage for: sick leave; vacation approved leave of absences; educational programs; employee on skills maintenance; surges in workload; unanticipated absences.

  • Vehicle Required - Required to provide a vehicle for business use; along with acceptable driver's abstract and proof of business insurance
  • Driver's License Required
  • Travel Required
