$24.01 to $30.28 per hour
*Remote Retention Allowance: In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Under the direction of the Deployment Managers, Northern Communications Centre, the Emergency Communications Officer is responsible for providing safe and effective 911 Public Service Answering Point (PSAP) duties and frontline mental health intervention through the Distress Line, EMS dispatch services and contracted Fire dispatch services for all areas served by the Northern Communications Centre. Responsibilities include EMS call answering/triaging, Distress Line intervention via telephone. This responsibility will be accomplished through established protocols, sound decision making, and promotion of best practices for both internal and external clients.

Current and maintained registration as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher with NAEMD;
Current certification in Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) with Medical Priority Dispatch (MPD);
Current certification in EMD-Q preferred;
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification;
Current Suicide Intervention Certificate, Experience in suicide intervention preferred.
Courses in word-processing, spreadsheet application, and PowerPoint preferred;
Minimum of two month’s experience as an EMD;
Minimum of two month’s experience in dispatching EMS and/or fire agencies.

Ability to:
• Apply EMD skills as required of a 911 PSAP/fire/EMS dispatch center.
• Work closely with EMS Staff.
• Identify and analyze problems and recommend effective solutions required.
• Use sound judgment in decision making under stressful situations.
• Communicate effectively both verbally and in written communications.
• Establish, maintains, and enhances effective working relationships with peers, employees, employer, and outside agencies.
• Function effectively within a dynamic work environment.
