As an experienced and skilled mental health professional, the Mental Health Therapist works as member of an interdisciplinary team out of the Stony Plain Addiction and Mental Health program, providing community-based, recovery oriented assessment, treatment, support, follow-up and case management to adults experiencing severe and, most often, persistent mental illness or those with concurrent disorders. The Mental Health Therapist must be able to assess needs, plan and provide interventions and evaluate outcomes autonomously and within their prescribed scope of practice. Clinical services are delivered in both office/clinic and off-site locations (including homes, community agencies, health care facilities, etc). Effective collaboration with families, other providers and a range of stakeholders is required. Formal consultation skills and abilities are required in liaison work with multiple agencies. Critical thinking skills, advance knowledge of mental illnesses and evidence based/evidenced informed treatment (including risk assessment and crisis management), working knowledge of the identification and management of concurrent disorders and medical co-morbidities, and the principles of chronic disease management and recovery are required.
Candidates will have a minimum of 3 years addiction and mental health experience. You will have acquired advanced levels of knowledge and skill in the assessment, crisis intervention, treatment, and rehabilitation of persons with mental illness. Extensive knowledge of the resources of Addiction and Mental Health and the community would be an asset, along with a demonstrated ability to work well with a range of community stakeholders and caregivers. You will have a Master's in Social Work (Clinical Registry preferred), Psychology or Occupational Therapy, or a diploma in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing with a degree preferred. Registered Social Workers must be registered to perform restricted activities. Current registration with the appropriate professional college or association, current BCLS-HCP, a valid driver's license and your own transportation are required. An excellent attendance record, reliability and personal suitability must be demonstrated through your employment record and references.
